First 4-day unofficial test at Galle

India ‘A’ captain Dhruv Jurel joined opener Sai Sudharsan by scoring a century in the first 4-day unofficial test against Sri Lanka ‘A’ played at the Galle Cricket Stadium yesterday.

On a rain-hit second day India ‘A’ declared their first innings at 452-6 with Jurel scoring a compact 141* off 215 balls (13 fours, 1 six) and sharing a fifth wicket stand of 136 with Shaik Rasheed (63 off 113 balls, 5 fours) and 86 for the sixth with Harsh Dubey (30).

Sri Lanka ‘A’ lost both openers Pawantha Weerasinghe (11) and Niroshan Dickwella (10) for 38 before Nuwanidu Fernando (65* off 103 balls, 7 fours) and Ashen Bandara (18*) carried Sri Lanka ‘A’ to 113-2 by the close without any further damage.

The match was interrupted twice by rain which allowed only 57 overs to be bowled for the day. The slow over rate maintained by both sides didn’t help either with 37 overs being lost so far over the two days. The match continues on its third day today with an early start at 9.45 am and 98 over scheduled to be bowled for the day. – [ST]
