West Indies took a series winning 4-2 lead in the seven-match Youth ODI Under-19 series when they beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets in the sixth game played at the Sri Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
In a high scoring match Sri Lanka invited to bat first put up a challenging total of 287-6. Openers Dimantha Mahavithana (49 off 61 balls, 5 fours) and Viran Chamuditha (88 off 85 balls, 10 fours) laid a solid foundation for the total with a stand of 114 off 106 balls. Skipper Vimath Dinsara also joined in the runs with an unbeaten 58 off 57 balls (4 sixes).
West Indies in their reply lost half the side for 125 in 30 overs, but an excellent stand of 115 off 84 balls for the sixth wicket between skipper Joshua Dorne (95 off 89 balls, 5 fours, 3 sixes) and Jonathan van Lange (50 off 43 balls, 1 fours, 4 sixes) brought them back into the contest, and they won with 8 balls to spare scoring 289-7.
Jaffna Hartely College right-arm leg-spinner Vigneshwaran Akash was once again Sri Lanka’s best bowler finishing with 3/41 taking his series tally to 18 wickets at an average of 9.44, more than half of the next highest wicket-taker Jakeem Pollard and Shaquan Belle with 8 each.
