Sri Lanka won their second warm-up match beating Afghanistan by seven runs (DLS method) at Windhoek to go into the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup in a good frame of mind.
They had earlier beaten South Africa by 12 runs also under the DLS method.
Dulnith Sigera and Kavija Gamage both missed out on centuries as Sri Lanka, batting first, scored 266-8 in their 50 overs. Sigera struck eight fours and three sixes in his 123-ball 95, while Gamage hit 10 fours and two sixes in scoring 97 off 109 balls before being run out. The two put on 170 for the third wicket, but once again Sri Lanka’s lower order suffered a collapse, losing five wickets for 25 runs, which is a cause of concern, especially when coming up against strong teams in the competition.
Afghanistan’s target was revised to 118 off 23.5 overs, but they managed to score only 110-3, falling short by eight runs.
Sri Lanka open their Under-19 World Cup campaign on Saturday when they meet Japan at Windhoek.
