A Division Champions – Team Seylan Bank
B Division Champions – Team CIAP
C Division Champions – Team John Keells
The sixth 9-A-Side Hockey Tournament, organised by the Mercantile Hockey Association (MHA), concluded successfully on 22 August at the Colombo Astro Turf, Colombo 7, with leading corporate teams competing across the A, B, and C Divisions. The tournament was sponsored by Janashakthi Group as the Title Sponsor.
Seylan Bank emerged as the A Division champions, defeating Sampath Bank 1-0 in a closely contested final. The winning goal was scored by Seylan Bank Captain Jiffery Irshad, while Sandaru Madushan was named the Best Player of the A Division.
The B Division saw CIAP claim the championship with a convincing 3-1 victory over Brown & Company. Sandun Gajanayake scored two goals for CIAP, while Nethmina Dharmakeerthi also found the net. Pathum Prabodha scored the only goal for Browns. Nethmina Dharmakeerthi of CIAP was named the Best Player of the B Division.
Meanwhile, John Keells Holdings secured the C Division championship after defeating David Pieris Motor Company 1-0, with Lasitha Manchanayake scoring the decisive goal. Lasitha Manchanayake was also named the Best Player of the C Division.
The tournament was graced by Chief Guest Janashakthi Group Vice President – Marketing Sohan Colabage and Manager – Brand Activations Yehan Hadapangoda, whose presence added further significance to the successful conclusion of the tournament.
