Saracens SC, Unichela SC joint champions of Governor’s Trophy

Saracens SC and Unichela SC were declared joint champions after their Governor’s Trophy final ended in a no-result due to rain at the BRC grounds.

In a game reduced to 40 overs because of rain and wet ground conditions, Unichela SC, taking first strike, ran up an impressive total of 200-7 off 40 overs, with Tharindu Dilanka making a top score of 63* off 53 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes) and 30s from the bats of Kalana Sandeep, Gimhan Ashirwada, and Thenuka Dewapriya. Saracens SC in reply were not too happily placed at 44-4 off 9.1 overs when rain interrupted play and ended the match.

Nisanjaya Hettiarachchi of Kurunegala SC won the Player of the Tournament award (Rs. 250,000), Gavin Boteju of Saracens SC the Best Batsman award (Rs. 150,000), and Dilshan Mendis of Unichela SC the Best Bowler award (Rs. 150,000).

The awards were presented by Tournament Committee Chairman Nalin Aponso.
