Ranuk Jayasuriya, son of legendary Sri Lanka cricketer and present head coach Sanath Jayasuriya and Kenul de Zoysa scored centuries apiece to give SSC a first innings points win against Kurunegala YCC in their SLC Under 23 Emerging Club two-day match concluded at the CCC grounds yesterday.
Replying to Kurunegala YCC’s first innings of 273, SSC were in trouble at 46-4 when this pair came together in a fifth partnership of 179. Jayasuriya, striking the ball to all parts of the ground scored 116 off 159 balls (16 fours, 2 sixes). De Zoysa put on a relentless batting performance scoring an unbeaten 152 off 160 balls (17 fours, 5 sixes) and adding a further 84 with Nadeesha Akash (37) as SSC went past Kurunegala YCC’s total and declared at 362-7. Former Sri Lanka U19 left-arm spinner Dinuka Thennakoon took 5/76. Kurunegala YCC in their second innings scored 110-6 with Neshan Dias taking three of them for 42 runs. (ST)
