‘Samaposha Provincial School Games 2025’ begins

  • 25,000 athletes from 7 provinces participating

 

The ‘Samaposha Provincial School Games 2025’, organised by the Provincial Education Department, began on Monday at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama focusing on 7 regions namely, the Western, Northern, Central, Northwestern, Eastern, Uva, Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

With over 70 competitive events, 3,000 schools and more than 25,000 athletes are scheduled to participate. The winning schools and athletes will be presented trophies, certificates, and medals, organised by the Provincial Education Department.

CBL Food Cluster Director and CEO Manjula Dahanayake said: “CBL is a company that has always been committed to the sports and educational activities of Sri Lankan children and hopes to raise a generation of talented children for the future. Towards this aim, the CBL’s Food Cluster is implementing a large part of the work under the Samaposha brand and this is another broad step in that direction. We are making a special contribution to the Provincial Sports Games, which is mainly implemented under the broader series of programs. We believe that the experiences school children gain through sports will enable them to develop the qualities of discipline, team spirit, patience, leadership and personality.”

Ministry of Education Physical Education and Sports Director G.G. Anura Wickrama said, “We appreciate the immense support provided by CBL Samaposha for nine (09) years to improve the skills of school children, promote their physical and mental wellbeing, and provide them with the necessary strength to elevate their skills to the national level.”

The Western Provincial Game will go on until 14 August. 

The Western Provincial Deputy Director of Education (Physical Education and Sports) L.A.D. Dhammika Kulathunga said: “In addition to the children’s abilities, the provincial sports games have enabled them to develop qualities such as leadership, patience and discipline. The contribution of Samaposha in organising such a national-level sports competition is very important.”

The Uva Provincial Game will be held at the Badulla Vincent Dias Stadium from 19 to 23 August. Uva Provincial Deputy Director of Education – Physical Education and Sports Thanuja Wijekoon said, “This contribution by Samaposha is very important to us in supporting the children who are trying to reach the national level and to ensure the Games are a success.”

The Southern Provincial Game will be held at the Matara Kotawila Stadium from 19 to 22 August. Speaking on the occasion, Southern Provincial Deputy Director of Education (Physical Education and Sports) R.M. Krishan Duminda said, “The Southern Provincial School Game is primarily organised by the Provincial Education Department and I thank Samaposha as a brand and all those involved in these activities that are being carried out to enhance children’s sports, education and nutrition.”

The North Central Provincial Game are scheduled to be held at the Anuradhapura Public Stadium from 10 to the 23 August.

The Eastern Provincial Game will be held from 03 to 07 September at the Weber Stadium in Batticaloa. Commenting on the games, the Eastern Provincial Assistant Director – Physical Education and Sports Mohamed Akmal said, “After many years, Samaposha is the first sponsor to come to the Eastern Province to promote school sports. This sports competition is a great asset to the Eastern Province. This service provided by a local product for the children of the country. The service rendered by a local manufacturer to the children of the country, bring indescribable joy.”

The North Western Provincial Game will be held from 02 to 06 September at the Albert F. Pieris Stadium in Wennappuwa. Commenting on the matter, the North Western Provincial Assistant Director – Physical Education and Sports J. M. D. Wasantha Kumara said, “This national support provided by Samaposha to school athletes to become more aware of their abilities through new technology, builds pride as athletes, and through that pride we are able to produce international-level athletes who will bring glory to the country is commendable.”

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Game is scheduled to be held at the Ruwanwella Public Stadium from 02 to 06 September. Commenting on the event, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Deputy Director – Physical Education and Sports D.A.D. Sumitha Delgoda Arachchi said, “A large number of highly talented children representing the Sabaragamuwa Province are participating in the Provincial Games. Holding provincial sports games of a very high standard develops the mental strength of the athletes and I highly appreciate the special contribution made by the Samaposha brand to this event.”

Expressing her views, CBL Food Cluster Marketing General Manager Sachi Fernando said, “Our endeavour through Samaposha is to create a generation of children who are not only well-nourished but also have good self-confidence and all-round development. Accordingly, under the theme of ‘Dinana Daruwo’, it is a great pleasure for us, Samaposha, to contribute to laying the necessary foundation to take school-level athletes to the international stage by organising such sports events.”
