The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) staged its Club Championship 2025 last weekend, producing high-quality competition across several divisions on one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic hill country courses. The event attracted both seasoned golfers and emerging young talent, highlighting the Club’s growing competitive standard. Over 80 golfers teed off at the annual event in the Hill Country under bathing sunshine.

Leading luxury brand Honma Golf, together with ProGolf Sri Lanka, partnered the championship, providing attractive prizes and premium golf equipment for the winners, adding prestige to the annual event.

The honours went to powerful hitter Sachin de Silva, who claimed the Gross Winner title with impressive rounds of 81 and 77 for a total of 158. His composed and consistent play across both days set the tone for a championship-calibre victory. de Silva accounted for the Club Championship for the Men’s segment.

de Silva also showed his strength off the tee by winning the Longest Drive contest at the first hole, launching a massive shot of over 360 yards, one of the standout moments of the tournament.

In the Women’s segment, promising youngster Kayla Perera captured the Women’s Club Championship Board Event Gross title, continuing her rise in club golf. She also finished runner-up at the 2025 Lady Captain’s Cup, while the experienced Ahalya Rajan secured the runner-up position in the Club Championship event.

The main Net division produced another competitive battle, with Maj. Gen. Srinath Rajapakse emerging as Net Winner with an aggregate of 152. Kumar Danushan claimed the Gross Runner-Up spot with 160, while Srimal Abeykoon finished as Net Runner-Up on 154.

Another top talent, Jevahn Sathasivam, lifted the Annual Gold Medal Board event with a score of 79. He, along with Jacob Norton and Danushan, were among the early front-runners before de Silva eventually sealed the overall championship.

In the Masters’ division, Prasanna Liyanage won the Net title with 157 ahead of Anura Fernando on 161. In the Ladies’ Captain’s Cup Board event, Kaitlyn Norton secured victory, while Deepani Gamage dominated the Bronze Division, winning both the Club Championship Bronze Gross and Lady Captain’s Cup Bronze Net. Pradeep Kodikara added to the excitement by winning the Nearest to the Pin prize.
