The SSC ground with floodlights installed to host T20 World Cup matches
Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday conducted a media tour of the SSC grounds in a bid to create public awareness about the latest development taking place at the ground, focussing on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The SSC will be a host ground for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, and the first game of the tournament will be played at this venue on 7 February between Pakistan and the Netherlands.
SSC will host 5 games of the World Cup.
During the media tour, Sri Lanka Cricket officials, along with the officials of the SSC, explained the development taking place at the ground.
Flood Light System
A state-of-the-art floodlight system is currently being installed at the ground, a significant development for the SSC, thus elevating its international standards further. The new lighting system was developed based on state-of-the-art LED technology and designed to meet international sports and broadcasting requirements. The system utilises high-performance LED luminaires with a 5700 K correlated colour temperature and a Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of 90, ensuring excellent visual clarity for players, officials, and spectators.
The installation comprises a total of 630 LED floodlight fixtures, strategically mounted on six high-mast towers to achieve uniform illumination levels across the entire playing area while minimising glare and shadows. A sophisticated lighting control system is established, which will enable multiple operational modes, such as dynamic lighting scenes that enhance spectator experience and create visually engaging events.
