It will be an SSC v Malay CC final for the SLC Tier B T20 title when they meet at the Colts grounds at 9:45 a.m. today.
In the semi-finals played at the SSC grounds on Saturday, SSC crushed Army SC by 7 wickets and Malay CC pulled off a 3-wicket win against Ragama CC.
Army SC invited to bat first were kept pegged down to a total of 139-8 by the SSC spinners who kept a tight leash on the run rate. Left-arm spinner Gishan Balasooriya was the pick of the bowlers with 3/19.
The powerful SSC line-up proved too good for the soldiers as they reached their target in 15.4 overs. National cricketers played a leading role in SSC’s run chase with all-rounder Chamindu Wickramasinghe setting the pace with a 33-ball 38 (3 fours, 2 sixes) to follow his 2/30 with the ball. Dasun Shanaka thumped 24 off 13 (2 fours, 2 sixes), skipper Avishka Fernando (34* off 22, 2 fours, 1 six) and Charith Asalanka (21* off 11, 1 four, 2 sixes) as SSC raced to their target with ease.
Malay CC recovered from losing their first six wickets for 97, chasing 171 to beat Ragama CC with 3 balls to spare. They were greatly indebted to a 65-run seventh wicket stand between Pulasthi Athapaththu (38 off 29 balls, 2 fours, 1 six) and Thimira Malshan (42* off 26, 4 fours) that saw them get over the line. Veteran left-arm spinner and Captain Upul Indrasiri caused the top order collapse with 3/26. Sameen Kandanarachchi (42 off 24, 4 fours, 3 sixes), Koshan Jayawickrama (43* off 22, 2 fours, 4 sixes) and Vikum Sanjaya (25 off 7, 4 sixes) contributed towards Ragama CC’s total of 170-7. – [ST]
