Tier B 3-day league

SSC certainly means business the way they have launched their campaign to win the Tier B 3-day league and gain promotion next year to the Major Clubs 3-day league.

SSC have thus won both their matches played so far outright and grabbed the maximum points to make a head start over the rest of their rivals. Led by Avishka Fernando they have several national cricketers in their ranks to make them a formidable outfit to beat.

Their victories in both games against Kandy Customs SC and Galle CC have been by an innings which speaks of the dominance they have over their rivals. With two outright wins SSC are on top of the standings. They host Ragama CC at their grounds from today.

Ragama CC is another club that was demoted along with SSC to Tier B from last season. Unlike SSC, Ragama CC has not been able to hold onto their key players who have left them to play for clubs participating in the Major Club 3-day league. As a result, Ragama CC are a club struggling to keep their heads above the water. Last weekend they were beaten outright by United Southern SC who are the only other club other than SSC to be unbeaten.

United Southern SC have won both their matches played (one outright and one on first innings) to be second in the standings to SSC. United Southern SC will meet Leo CC at the Moors SC grounds in what could turn out to be a keen contest as Leo CC also took full points from their last game against Moratuwa SC.

With the exception of Galle CC and Navy SC who have yet to record a win the rest of the teams have won at least one match going into the third weekend of matches.

The other matches commencing today are: Army SC v Malay CC at Panagoda, Negombo CC v Galle CC at BRC grounds, Sebastianites v Kandy Customs SC at Army grounds, Salawa and Navy SC v Moratuwa SC at Welisara. (ST)
