Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has roped in former fast bowler Lasith Malinga to join the Sri Lanka squad at practices in preparation for the white ball tour of Zimbabwe starting later this month.

Malinga will work closely with the squad’s fast bowlers, offering tactical insights and technical expertise, until the team’s departure to Zimbabwe, states an SLC media release.

Malinga with his unique square arm bowling action became a legend in white ball cricket and was one of Sri Lanka’s most successful fast bowlers in the ODI and T20I formats.

Malinga who is residing with his family in Australia said that he came to Sri Lanka on a short visit and at the request of SLC he agreed to come and help out with the preparation of the fast bowlers for the upcoming tour to Zimbabwe.

“I thought it was a good thing and I joined the practices yesterday,” said Malinga.

“I will be in Sri Lanka for a few more days and during that time I will try to share my experiences with them as there is also an Asia Cup and T20 World Cup coming up. It is something that I like doing,” he said.

The Sri Lanka team (the names of the players which are still pending with the Sports Minister for more than a week) is scheduled to leave for Zimbabwe on 22 August to play a series comprising two ODIs and three T20Is.
