For the second time since the Major Club T20 began on 16 May the tournament has undergone a postponement due to prevailing bad weather conditions. Along with it, the other two domestic tournaments which were also run concurrently – Tier B T20 and the Governors Trophy have also been postponed.
“We took this decision after discussing with the SLC President. The current weather reports are not all that conducive for cricket. Our only chance to play these matches, the ones scheduled for 31 May, 2 and 3 June is on 5, 6 and 8 June with the quarterfinals scheduled for 11 June, semi-finals for 13 June and final on 15 June,” said Tournament Committee chairman Nalin Aponso.
“Our biggest problem is whether the grounds will be available on these new dates because we played all the matches on the main grounds. We have informed the respective ground authorities that were scheduled to host these matches of the new dates. If they are available we will play on it. We are in the process of finalising the venues. With the LPL also scheduled to begin, this is the best possible adjustment that we can make without upsetting the domestic calendar.”
Thus, the SLC Major One-Day 50-over tournament will be pushed back by four days and will commence on 19 June instead of the scheduled 15 June. The postponed matches have been pushed towards the back end of the tournament. – [ST]
