The final league match between SLC Greens and SLC Greys which was supposed to be a dress rehearsal for Saturday’s final turned out to be a damp squib as rain and a wet outfield allowed only three overs to be bowled at the SSC grounds yesterday.
The match ended in a no-result and deprived many youngsters which both teams had included for this game the opportunity of showcasing their talent ahead of the T20I team selection to Zimbabwe. The captains were also changed with SLC Greens being led by Kusal Mendis replacing Kamindu Mendis and for SLC Greys Ramesh Mendis taking over from Charith Asalanka.
In the short space of time play was possible Kamil Mishara lit up the gloomy day getting SLC Greens off to a flying start. He took 26 runs (2 sixes, 3 fours) off the first over bowled by Chamindu Wickramasinghe, chancing his arm on several occasions and getting away with it.
Mishara raced to 37* off 11 balls inclusive of 4 fours and 3 sixes when the heavens opened out cutting short his razzmatazz with SLC Greens on 46-1 after three overs of a match reduced to 16 overs.
Garuka Sanketh, the former Sri Lanka U19 right-arm fast bowler managed to grab the wicket of SLC Greens skipper Kusal Mendis for two after seeing Mishara dropped at 36 by Ashian Daniel in the same over. Kusal missed out on another opportunity of putting some runs against his name on the board.
Lasith Croospulle faced three deliveries and scored 7* when rain drove the players into the pavilion for the final time. The heavy downpour left large puddles of water on the outfield and with no strong sunshine for the day hopes of continuing with the match faded and play was eventually abandoned.
