Six matches down for decision after brief suspension due to bad weather

SLC Major Clubs T20 resumes tomorrow with a card of six matches after the tournament was suspended briefly for nine days due to bad weather. With the weather showing signs of clearing the tournament is set to resume once again.

This year’s Major Clubs T20 is of great significance as Sri Lanka is using it to plug the existing holes in their national T20I team ahead of next year’s ICC T20 World Cup.

Cricket selectors Chairman Upul Tharanga spoke of getting the right batsmen to stabilise the middle order and in this aspect he said, “We have identified the middle order players for the World Cup and those who are next in line, and given them specialised positions to bat during the ongoing Major T20 tournament for their respective clubs.”

The national selectors will be keeping a close eye on the matches with the intention of picking the T20I side for the 3-match series against Bangladesh starting 10 July at Pallekele.

Six matches are down for decision for tomorrow with the Moors SC v CCC game at the SSC grounds taking pride of place. Both clubs won their opening fixtures and will be keen to extend that run from Group A which is headed by NCC, the defending champions.

The other match that will draw interest is between Havelock Park rivals Colts and BRC at the SSC grounds. These two clubs also won their opening matches and will look forward to keep themselves in contention from Group B which Bloomfield, the losing finalist, heads.

Kurunegala YCC and Panadura SC who meet at CCC grounds, and Police SC and Nugegoda SWC at Colts grounds will be keen to get their first points on the board after losing their opening matches.

Chilaw Marians CC and Badureliya SC are coming out for the first time and their task has not been made easy as they come up against the two group leaders.

Chilaw Marians CC are billed to take on Bloomfield at CCC grounds, while Badureliya SC confront NCC at the Colts grounds.
