SLC Major Clubs T20 tournament Tussle for quarter-final places resumes after the rains

With just three more rounds of matches to go before the group stage is completed there is certainly going to be a tussle to finish within the top four of each of the two groups to qualify for a place in the quarter-finals of the SLC Major Clubs T20 tournament which resumes today after a break for bad weather.

The tournament was suspended after four rounds of matches due to adverse weather conditions and the matches are rescheduled to start from today with the group matches ending on 8 June and the quarter-finals due to commence from 11 June.

Finishing on top of the group guarantees a team meeting the fourth placed team of the other group in the quarter-finals. That will be the priority of the clubs vying for places in the last eight over the next four days when the remaining group matches will be completed.

Of the six matches down for decision today, the Moors SC v NCC game at the P. Sara Oval takes precedence over others. Moors SC are heading Group A and their clash with defending champions NCC who are third in the group will be worth going a long way to witness. Along with Badureliya SC, they are the only unbeaten teams in the group.

Badureliya SC have been unfortunate with the weather as the three matches they were down to play all ended in a no-result with two of them being abandoned without a ball bowled. Badureliya SC get their chance to break the ice when they meet second placed Panadura SC at the Colts grounds. Panadura SC will also be keen to consolidate their position at the top 4 of the group.

The other key game for today is between second and third placed teams from Group B, Bloomfield and BRC at the CCC grounds. It is imperative for BRC who have played one game more than Bloomfield to win to ensure they finish within the first four in the group to qualify for a place in the quarters. Bloomfield, the newly crowned Major Club 3-day League champions will at the same time be looking to win and regain top position in the group as Colts, the group leaders are without a game today.

There will be a keen tussle for honours when fourth placed Tamil Union take on fifth placed Nugegoda SWC at the Colts grounds. Both teams are tied on 3 points each with Tamil Union having an advantage of playing one game less.

The other two matches are both bottom of the table clashes with Kurunegala YCC meeting Ace Capital CC at the CCC grounds from Group A, and Police SC confronting Chilaw Marians CC at the P. Sara Oval from Group B.
