With Sri Lanka due to commence a three-match T20I series with Bangladesh in July the SLC Major Club T20 tournament that commences today will not only be closely followed but give opportunities to many players to catch the eye of the selectors as Sri Lanka look to plug in the loopholes of their team combination ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup.
Sri Lankan T20 players involved in the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Premier League will not be on show until the tournament finishes, but for the rest it is an opportunity to seize and make a statement to the selectors.
Following the conclusion of the SLC Major League tournament that saw the relegation of four teams that ended in the bottom two of their groups, this year’s Major Clubs T20 will feature only 14 teams. A notable absentee will be SSC who were one of the clubs that was relegated to play in Tier B.
Reigning champions NCC and losing finalist Bloomfield will both be in the limelight today which features a card of six matches.
NCC will take on Kurunegala YCC at the CCC grounds at 9:45 a.m., and Bloomfield will meet Nugegoda SWC at Colts grounds at 2 p.m.
Losing semi-finalists BRC and Moors SC are also coming out today. BRC meet Police SC at Colts grounds at 9:45 a.m. and Moors SC play Panadura SC at the P. Sara Oval at 2 p.m.
Ace Capital CC v CCC at P Sara Oval at 9:45 a.m and Tamil Union v Colts at CCC grounds at 2 p.m. are the other matches down for decision today. – [ST]
