SL Rugby suspended; five-member working task force appointed

A Gazette Extraordinary has been issued, suspending the registration of Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR). 

A five-member working task force has been appointed to adopt the constitution of SLR as recommended by the Constitutional Review Group of World Rugby. New office bearers must be elected within 90 days after the registration of the new Constitution.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, has revoked the appointment of Prof. (Rear Admiral) Shemal Fernando as the Competent Authority, according to a Gazette notification issued today due to legal reasons.

Members of the working task force are:

Chairman – Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rtd.) M. R. Latiff

National Olympic Committee Chairman Suresh Subramaniam 

National Sports Council Chairman Priyantha Ekanayake 

President’s Counsel Dinal Phillips 

National Sports Council Member Rohan Abayakoon
