Nepal snatched a convincing 2-0 win over Sri Lanka in the curtain raiser of the SAFF Under-17 Soccer Tournament played at the Race Course Stadium under lights yesterday.
After holding the fort until the 51st minute of the game, Nepal broke the shackles through Ram Thami who sneaked through the rival defences to score.
Earlier, in the 31st minute of the game Lankan player Mohamed Ifham was initially shown a yellow card for rough play but later referee Kumar Ashwin made a harsh decision and converted it to a red card which surprised the crowd gathered to witnessed the game.
The Lankan dribblers played the rest of the game sans a player. They had few chances but failed to improvise on those opportunities. On the brink of the full time Samir Kumar sealed the game with another well executed goal.
