There was a rumpus at a Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) last week due to no agenda being circulated.
Sources said the Ex-Co came under stiff criticism from members present, and the SGM ended within half an hour.
Some insiders said the SGM on 7 May was intended to adopt revised rules, but there was scepticism regarding this as well.
The Rules Reform Committee was appointed by the Ex-Co in early 2026 to submit recommendations for the reform of club rules. Sources said that after an “exhaustive study,” the Committee made recommendations to the Ex-Co on 1 March. The Rules Committee thereafter wrote to the Ex-Co on 27 April, drawing attention to its report and expressing surprise at the call for the SGM on 7 May to adopt new rules without reference to its recommendations. Insiders alleged the Ex-Co was not fully agreeable with the recommendations of the Rules Committee.
No consideration was given to the Rules Committee report. In fact, the Ex-Co proposals were inconsistent with the recommendations made by the Committee.
After the SGM fiasco, the Ex-Co has apparently made hurried overtures to the Rules Committee for an urgent meeting to discuss the recommendations.
