Royal College’s Imthisal Nazeer, one of the try scorers, in action during the match against Isipathana
Royal College produced some top-class rugby in the latter half to secure the Milroy Fernando Trophy, with a narrow 34/31 win over Isipathana College on Saturday. The opening half was dominated by the Greens, who capitalised on Royal’s handling errors and defensive lapses to storm into a 24/3 lead at the short breather. Isipathana’s forwards controlled possession, while their backs exploited space with precision, leaving Royal chasing the game.
However, the tide turned dramatically after the break. The Royalists, urged on by their home crowd, tightened their defence and unleashed their trademark rolling mauls. Clinical finishing from their three-quarters saw them chip away at the deficit before sealing the game in the dying minutes.
Referee Suranga Arunashantha officiated this vital encounter.
