Host Royal College Colombo will be looking to break a three-year hoodoo when they meet their Bradby rivals Trinity College Kandy in the 19th annual hockey encounter for J.C.A Corea Challenge Cup scheduled for this Sunday at Colombo International Astro Turf.
The Kandy school has won the Cup in the last three encounters.
Royal will be playing the last trophy match for the season after winning all the three games against arch rival S.Thomas College, Mount Lavinia, Kingswood College, Kandy, and Wesley College Colombo.
Trinity College, led by Y. Thakshilan, have already won the trophy match against S.Thomas College, Mount Lavinia.
The Kandy team clashed with Royal in the recently held National School Games and won by 2-1. Later, they became 2nd runners up in the tournament.
Royal had been steady in their last three trophy matches.
Both schools will also be playing the Under-16 game for Paul Jeyaraj Trophy before the Under-20 game.
Royal, led by Yusuf Shihar, who represented Sri Lankan in Junior Asia Cup in China this year, emerged runners up in the Western Province Hockey tournament. The team is coached by veteran Sri Lanka and former Air Force hockey player Damith Panditharatne since 2022.
