Under overcast conditions and rain, low-scoring was the order of the day in the SLC Major Club Women’s Limited Over Tournament, where a winning result was reached in all five matches played yesterday.

The two forces teams, Navy SC and Air Force SC, along with Chilaw Marians CC, continued their domination of the tournament, recording their third win in as many matches.

Navy SC, led by national cricketer Hansima Karunaratne, beat Ace Capital CC by eight wickets (DLS method) in a game reduced to 22 overs a side at Salawa Army Grounds at Kosgama. Ace Capital CC were restricted to a score of 78-6, of which Captain Hashini Indrajith contributed 34 off 61 balls. Navy SC knocked the required runs in 10 overs losing two wickets, with Hasini Perera crashing 30 off 18 balls (7 fours).

At the CCC Grounds, Air Force SC beat the home team by 85 runs in a 33-over match (DLS method). Opening bat Yashoda Mendis (68 off 74 balls, 8 fours) shone for Air Force SC with the bat in their total of 176-6. Seamers Malki Madara (4/17) and Tharuka Shehani (3/11) routed CCC for 91 in 25.3 overs.

National women’s Captain Chamari Athapaththu produced her best form of the tournament, smashing an unbeaten 76 off 74 balls (10 fours, 2 sixes) to steer Chilaw Marians CC to an emphatic seven-wicket win against SSC at the SSC Grounds. SSC were dismissed for 121 in 40.4 overs by the seam and spin of Kawya Kavindi (3/17) and Dewmi Vihanga (3/20). Opener Iresha Shyamali top-scored with 39 off 73 balls. Chilaw Marians CC replied with 122-3 in 29 overs.

Army SC, after faltering in their first match, recorded their second successive win beating Colts by 62 runs (DLS method) at Army Grounds, Dombagoda. In a 32-over game, Army SC scored 88-9 with skipper Achini Kulasooriya making a top-score of 25. Colts were shot out for the lowest total of the tournament – 26 in 17.2 overs – their batting caving into the medium-pace of veteran Niluka Kushanthi (4/8 off 6.2 overs) and left-arm spinner Sugandika Kumari (3/8).

Panadura SC also secured their second win with a four-wicket defeat of Badureliya CC at the Panadura esplanade. Badureliya CC were dismissed for 75 off 26.5 overs, with 16-year-old fast bowler Pramudi Methsara producing economical figures of 9-5-5-3. Panadura SC lost six wickets in getting there in the 21st over, with seamer Sewmini Sasikala capturing half of them.
