Second day of the Kandy Regional Junior Open Golf Championship 2025 at the Victoria Golf Resort at Rajawella produced thrilling battle with Reshan Algama over taking Jevahn Sathasivam by a single stroke end of Day 2 yesterday.
In the Boys Gold division (15 to 18 years), Reshan Algama went ahead with rounds of 73 and 70 for a total of 143, just one stroke behind was Jevahn Sathasivam who carded 71 and 73 for an aggregate of 144 keeping the contest finely balanced.
Jevahn was the leader on Day 1 and both top class juniors go in to the third day today with a tight contest on the final days clash at Rajawella.
In the Girls gold division, Keya Abhayaratne with two rounds of 88 and 85 was the leader while Sithara Lorance was placed second with two rounds of 92 and 85.
The Silver division saw Lavindu Premarathna take the lead with consistent rounds of 80 and 82, totalling 162. Udeera Bandara followed with 86 and 91 for 177, ensuring a tight contest ahead.
In the Silver division for girls, Genuli Weerakoon 92 and 95 with a total 187 hold the lead. Venudi Keerthana 102 and 103 was second with an aggregate of 205.
In the Boys Silver (11 to 13 years) T. Prabagaran dominated with scores of 61 and 63 for a remarkable 124. He was closely followed by Kenul Schofield fired 65 and 62 to finish just three shots adrift at 127.
The Girls Silver division was equally close, with Fathima Zeeniya shining at 73 and 65 for 138. Thisarani Herath was a single stroke behind, posting 73 and 66 for 139.
In the Boys Bronze division (11–12 years), Jaeden Sathasivam, defending champion showed top class consistency with twin rounds of 37, totalling 74. Abiman Abeywardhana was second with 39 and 38 for a total of 77, just three shots behind. A thrilling battle awaits between the two juniors – one from Colombo (Jaeden) and the other from Anuradapura (Abiman).
The Girls Bronze division belonged to Dulkini Kangara who carded 46 and 47 for 93. Sithumali Thangaraja (RCGC) followed at 53 and 51, totalling 104 to secure runner-up.
The final day will take place today at Rajawella. Prima Bread sponsors this event giving the much-needed support for Junior Golf in the country for the last 16 years. (SJ)
