Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan has further cemented his credentials as a modern-day cricketing great, moving to the top of the Men’s T20I wicket list in Afghanistan’s victory over UAE in Sharjah on Monday night.
The leg-spinner once again led the way for his country, playing a key role in causing an Emirati middle-order collapse, taking 3/11 (4) in the 38-run win and overtaking New Zealand quick Tim Southee to move to 165 wickets in the format.
Teaming up with Sharafuddin Ashraf who removed dangerman Muhammad Waseem (67 from 37), Rashid removed fellow big hitter Asif Khan (1) four balls later, taking the match away from the hosts.
Having earlier removed Ethan D’Souza (12), the wicket of Asif moved Rashid level with Southee, before the leg-spinner claimed the record with the final ball of his spell, finding the outside edge of Dhruv Parashar (1) who was caught by sub-fielder Mohammad Ishaq.
The win is Afghanistan’s first of the tri-series, having gone down to Pakistan by 39 runs in the opening match.
