Roshan Rajoo
At 41, Roshan Rajoo, the former school champion of high jump, has returned to the runway with clear intent. He wants medals on the Masters stage, and he is building a season to match that goal. Rajoo, a product of St. Anne’s College Kurunegala, first made his mark in 2003. He won gold at the National School Games and the National Sports Festival, and set a district standard that still stands in Kurunegala. A year later, he stepped onto the regional stage, representing Sri Lanka at the Asian Grand Prix Athletics Championships. Life then moved in a different direction. Now based in the United Arab Emirates and working as an accountant, Rajoo stayed close to the sport by coaching high jump at a local club. That link has driven his return. He competes in the 40–44 age category, where experience, timing, and technique decide results. The comeback has been sharp. In 2025, he earned silver at the UAE Club Championship in the 35+ category. The same year, an injury cut short his attempt at the Asian Masters Athletics Championships. He reset, rebuilt, and came back stronger. In 2026, the results followed. Rajoo won gold for Sri Lanka at the International Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 in the 40+ division. He then cleared another milestone at the Malaysia Masters Athletics Championships 2026, taking gold and setting a new competition record. Fresh from adding another gold medal to his collection by clinching victory at the Maldives Masters meet on Thursday (May 7), Rajoo now shifts his focus to a packed calendar. He is targeting the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu in August. Before that, he will compete at the Singapore Masters in June.
