West Indies commenced their short tour of Sri Lanka on a wet note when heavy rain washed out the first day’s play of their 4-day warm-up match against a SLC President’s XI at the SSC grounds yesterday.

It is the only warm-up game the West Indies have before commencing a two-Test series against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium on 21 November. The second Test is also scheduled at the same venue starting on 29 November.

Sri Lanka’s leading run-getter at the T20 World Cup, Charith Asalanka is captaining the President’s XI team that includes Pathum Nissanka, Oshada Fernando, Dhananjaya de Silva, Roshen Silva, Minod Bhanuka (wk), Chamika Karunaratne, Asitha Fernando, Kamil Mishara, Chamika Gunasekera, Suminda Lakshan, Lakshan Sandakan, Ramesh Mendis, Lasith Embuldeniya and Vishwa Fernando.

Meanwhile, six of the seven Major Limited-Over matches scheduled for decision yesterday were also washed out without a ball bowled.

There was play only at Maggona where Group B table toppers Tamil Union defeated Galle CC by three wickets under the D/L method.
