Rain reduces Major Clubs T20 final into damp squib

Rival captains Akila Dananjaya (Colts) and Niroshan Dickwella (NCC) share the trophy and prize money as joint champions


  • Colts, NCC declared joint champs with not a ball bowled

The final of the SLC Major Club T20 Tournament between Colts and NCC at the SSC Grounds was abandoned without a ball bowled due to persistent rain yesterday.

According to the tournament rules, the two finalists were declared joint champions, with both teams splitting the total prize money of Rs. 800,000 set aside for champions (Rs. 500,000) and runner-up (Rs. 300,000).

Individual awards were: Player of the Tournament (Rs. 200,000) – Lahiru Samarakoon (Moors SC), Best Batsman of the Tournament (Rs. 100,000) – Upul Tharanga (NCC) and Best Bowler of the Tournament (Rs. 100,000) – Lahiru Madushanka (Bloomfield).

The awards were presented by SLC Head of National Cricket Operations Chinthaka Edirimanne and SLC Manager of National Cricket Operations Suresh Bulankulame.
