Provincial Rugby unions oppose new Working Task Force appointment

Provincial Rugby unions have objected to the appointment of Hassan Sinhawansa to the Working Task Force as the Executive Director.

“With reference to the ongoing developments concerning the Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) Annual General Meeting, we wish to formally express our strong opposition to the appointment of Hassan Sinhawansa as Executive Director to the Working Task Force,” unions have said in their letter Working Task Force Chairman M. R. Latiff.

“Although we had previously endorsed his appointment as Executive Director of SLR, it is important to note that he was subsequently removed from this position by the Ministry in 2024. During his tenure at SLR, we observed significant concerns regarding his professional conduct and work ethics,” it added.

As a result, his duties were not carried out with the respect and trust expected from someone in such a role. Given these past experiences, we do not believe his appointment at this critical juncture is appropriate or credible.

“We respectfully request that he be removed from the Task Force and replaced with a more suitable candidate — preferably someone who has not been previously suspended or dismissed from service,” the letter added.

Other members of the Task Force are Suresh Subramaniam, Dinal Phillips, PC, M.H. Marso, and Ravindranath Wijenath.
