President extends wishes to Lankan students on quest to conquer world’s second highest mountain K2

President Maithripala Sirisena made a financial donation to the Kandy Dharmaraja College Scout Group troops who plan to conquer the world’s second highest mountain Karakoram 2 (K2) in Pakistan, at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.

This is the first time that a Sri Lankan scout group is taking part in climbing the world’s second highest mountain K2 and for this challenging task the President made a donation of Rs. 1 million.

The Sri Lankan scout group is scheduled to depart the country on 31 August and it will take 21 days to climb K2.

The President handed over the Sri Lankan flag to the scout group to plant at the summit of the mountain and he also posed for a group photograph with the scout group.

Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake, Central Province Minister Thilina Bandara Tennakoon, Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association J. Fernando, Deputy Principal of Kandy Dharmaraja College and the teacher-in-charge of the scout group were present at this occasion.
