The rugby fever is set to hit the lush tea country as the much-anticipated Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket Club (DMCC) Inter Plantations Rugby Sevens 2025 unfolds on 5 April at the picturesque DMCC ground.
This annual event, deeply rooted in the plantation sporting culture, will see 12 powerhouse teams from leading plantation companies vying for supremacy in the fast-paced and exhilarating game of Rugby Sevens. The Plantation Rugby Sevens has grown into a prestigious event over the years, providing a competitive platform for plantation sector employees to show their athleticism and teamwork. Organised by the Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket Club, this tournament has been a highlight of the regional sporting calendar, fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship among the plantation
Each team will play in a round-robin format within their pool, with the top teams advancing to the knockout stages. Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield segments to be worked off later in the evening. DMCC has a long-standing tradition of promoting rugby in Sri Lanka’s upcountry region. Over the years, the Plantation Rugby Sevens has produced some remarkable talents who have gone on to represent higher levels of rugby in the country. This event is not just a competition but a festival of sportsmanship, heritage, and pride.
