Thurstan stun S. Thomas’ 27-24 at Ratmalana
St. Peter’s College produced a ruthless display to launch their Under-19 Schools Rugby League campaign with a thumping 67-0 victory over Mahanama College at Bambalapitiya yesterday evening.
The Peterites were in complete control from the outset, racing to a commanding 45-0 lead at half-time, leaving the visitors struggling to cope with the pace and power of the home side.
It was a one-sided contest throughout, as St. Peter’s ran in an impressive 11 tries in a dominant all-round performance that underlined their title ambitions this season.
Rashwin Sabar opened the scoring for the hosts, with Ashok Krishan adding the conversion, setting the tone early in the game.
Hashara Madugasge soon crossed for the second try, while Sabar grabbed his second to extend the lead to 21-0 as the Peterites began to pile on the pressure.
The floodgates truly opened thereafter, with Nethshan Manthusara crossing twice, while Jamal Wahab and Shiras Perera also added their names to the scoresheet. Madugamage was reliable with the boot, adding the extras.
After the turnaround, the scoring rate slowed briefly, but St. Peter’s regained momentum late in the second half with further tries from skipper Shenuka Perera, Ashok Krishan, and Madugasge, who completed a fine hat-trick.
Referee Lasantha Kumara officiated the match.
In other games, Thurstan stunned S. Thomas’ 27-24 at Ratmalana, Sri Sumangala edged DS Senanayake 28-26 at Havelock Park, and St. Joseph’s beat Ananda 41-19 at Rajagiriya.
