Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) has announced the appointment of experienced New Zealand coach Peter Woods as the new Head Coach of the national sevens program, marking a significant step in the country’s preparations for upcoming international competitions.

Woods brings with him a wealth of experience, both as a former New Zealand representative sevens player and as a highly respected international coach.

He is no stranger to Sri Lankan rugby, having previously guided the national sevens team between 2016 and 2018. During his earlier tenure, Sri Lanka competed in several major international events, including the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, while gaining valuable exposure against top-tier opposition.

The New Zealander has also enjoyed a successful coaching career with the Bay of Plenty Men’s Sevens program in New Zealand, where he played a key role in developing players and strengthening the provincial sevens structure.

His extensive knowledge of the shortened format and proven track record in player development are expected to benefit Sri Lanka’s next generation of sevens talent.

SLR will sign with Woods tomorrow (2) in Colombo.
