Panadura SC led by Sri Lanka white ball all-rounder Dushan Hemantha continued their march towards the final when they defeated defending champions NCC by 48 runs under the DLS method in the first semi-final played at the CCC grounds.

At the end of 13 overs when rain stopped play NCC’s par score should have been 123, but they had scored only 74-7 and thereby lost by 48 runs on the DLS method.

Panadura SC electing to bat first put up a decent total of 165-7 with the main contributions coming from Vishen Halambage (55 off 26 balls, 5 fours, 4 sixes) and Nimesh Vimukthi (43 off 36 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes).

NCC’s batting were in tatters after former Dharmasoka Ambalangoda off-spinner Senitha Halambage took the wickets of Niroshan Dickwella (19) and Kamil Mishara (0) off successive deliveries in the third over to have them at 23-2. NCC kept losing wickets constantly as spinners Vishwa Lahiru (3/14) and Dushan Hemantha (2/21) also got into the act and were hopelessly placed when the game was stopped for rain. NCC had seven national cricketers in their ranks.

The second semi-final which took place after the first under lights was delayed by rain and reduced to an 8-over affair. Moors SC invited to bat first by CCC scored 86-5 with skipper Ramesh Mendis setting the pace with 28* off 11 balls (3 sixes).

CCC got off to a flying start with Nishan Madushka taking 22 runs off the first over bowled by Shiran Fernando that included two sixes and two fours off the first four balls. His second wicket stand of 56 off 23 balls with Chaturanga de Silva (30* off 12 balls, 1 four 3 sixes) sealed the match for CCC who won with 8 balls to spare. Madushka’s 47 off 20 comprised 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Panadura SC and CCC will meet in the final at the CCC grounds on Sunday match commencing 7:30 p.m.
