Pakistan appoint seasoned leader Mike Hesson as white-ball Head Coach

Mike Hesson has been announced as the white-ball head coach of the men’s team, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Tuesday.

Hesson steps into the role previously held by Aqib Javed, who served as the interim head coach following Gary Kirsten’s departure in October 2024. Javed will remain involved with Pakistan cricket, transitioning to the position of Director of High Performance.

Hesson, currently the head coach of Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), will take over the reins of Pakistan’s national white-ball team from 26 May.

At the international level, Hesson has previously led New Zealand and Kenya. Under his guidance, the Black Caps became a formidable force, reaching the final of the 2015 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Speaking on Hesson’s appointment, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said, “I am pleased to announce the appointment of former New Zealand cricketer and renowned coach Mike Hesson as the white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s team.

“Mike brings with him a wealth of international experience and a proven track record of developing competitive sides. We look forward to his expertise and leadership in shaping the future of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket. Welcome to the team, Mike.”
