Women’s NSL T20 tournament

Pace setters of the Women’s National Super League (NSL) T20 tournament Team Blues and Team Green recorded identical wins by 8 wickets in their respective matches concluded at the Colts grounds yesterday.

Team Blues who head the table by a single point over Team Green, defeated Team Red through an unbroken 99-run partnership between skipper Harshitha Samarawickrama (48* off 50 balls, 2 fours, 1 six) and Sathya Sandeepani (49* off 46 balls, 3 fours, 1 six). Team Red were pinned down to a total of 126-6 by the off-breaks of Dewmi Vihanga (3/19). Team Red lost their first four wickets for 33 and were rescued by their fifth wicket pair Umayangana Peiris (37) and Shashini Gimhani who scored her maiden fifty (50* off 35 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes). The pair added 77 off 59 balls.

Skipper Hasini Perera and Nilakshika Silva led Team Green’s successful run chase against Team Greys sharing an unbroken partnership of 115 off 91 balls. Hasini scored her second half-century in successive days (58* off 47 balls, 4 fours, 1 six) and Nilakshika (60* off 50 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes).

Team Greys were kept down to a total of 120-6 by the left-arm seam and spin of Udeshika Prabodhani (3/20) and Sugandika Kumari (3/20). Imesha Dulani was the stand out performer for Team Greys scoring an unbeaten 54 off 44 balls (5 fours). – (ST)
