Oshada steers Galle CC to win with Captain’s knock

Oshada Fernando played Captain’s innings to bring Galle CC victory


Of the four matches scheduled for yesterday only the matches played at the P. Sara Oval produced results with Galle CC and Air Force SC winning, while the two games down for decision at Surrey Village CC grounds were both affected by bad weather and ended in no-results.

Sri Lanka’s Test batsman Oshada Fernando played a captain’s knock of 72* off 55 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes) to steer Galle CC to a five-wicket win over Negombo CC in at the P. Sara Oval. Negombo CC batting first managed 130-9 with Jeevaka Sashen making a top score of 45 off 32 balls and seamer Hansamana de Silva capturing 3/17. Galle CC passed that total to win with nine balls to spare. Off-spinner Sachindu Colombage picked up three of the five Galle wickets to fall.

Air Force SC pulled off a six-wicket win over Chilaw Marians CC in the second match played at this venue. A fine half-century from Adithya Siriwardana who was forced to retire hurt at 54 off 45 balls (5 fours) and contributions of 35 and 37 from Kemira Wijenayake and Madushanka Premaratne respectively saw Air Force SC top Chilaw Marians CC total of 154-7 to win with three balls to spare. Pacie Kavindu Nirmana took all four Air Force wickets to fall. Chamod Sandaru (53* off 37 balls, 4 fours, 3 sixes) and Damith Silva (40 off 30 balls, 1 four, 3 sixes) were Chilaw Marians CC’s principal scorers.

Heavy rain at Surrey Village CC grounds in Kalutara saw the two matches scheduled to be played there, end in a no-result. Only 4.4 overs were possible in the first match during which period Panadura SC invited to bat first made 55-2 against Army SC. The second match between NCC and Police SC was abandoned without a ball bowled. – (ST)
