  • Tier B 3-Day League six matches down for decision

With the Tier B 3-day League reaching its halfway mark, SSC are firmly perched on top of the table with a 20-point lead over their nearest rivals Moratuwa SC.

SSC has carried everything before them to secure full points from the five matches they have played so far. They are the only team to do so and the only one out of the 12 competing to remain unbeaten. Today, they host Colombo Malay CC on their home turf and on current form SSC should close out this game as well. Apart from a stunning two-wicket win against Navy SC, Malay CC have not had things their own way and suffered three losses in a row since.

Moratuwa SC who moved to second place behind SSC following their win against Kandy Customs SC last weekend will take on third placed United Southern SC at Army grounds, Saliyapura in what should turn out to be a close contest. United Southern SC who had been keeping pace with SSC, lost ground when Negombo CC beat them by eight wickets. That win elevated Negombo CC to fourth place and in another game that could go either way they will meet Leo CC at the Air Force grounds, Katunayake. Leo CC with three outright wins, the last two back-to-back are lying in fifth position. Only 10 points separate Moratuwa SC, United Southern SC, Negombo CC and Leo CC which is why it makes the contests amongst these teams quite interesting.

Army SC who secured an innings win against Ragama CC last weekend will fancy their chances against Galle CC at Moors SC grounds while Sebastianites will also feel the same when they take on bottom of the table Navy SC at Bloomfield grounds. Ragama CC will come up against Kandy Customs SC at Army grounds, Salawa, two teams that have just a solitary win to their credit and will want to push themselves up from the bottom half of the standings in order to avoid relegation at the end of the season. – [ST]
