Fast bowler Isitha Wijesundara took a match bag of 10/110, only his second in a first-class career of 44 matches as Sri Lanka ‘A’ completed a comprehensive 308-run win against Afghanistan ‘A’ in the 4-day one-off test played at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

Set a massive target of 615 to chase, Afghanistan ‘A’ put up a stern fight on the fourth and final day to drag their second innings till the final session largely due to dogged resistance put up by their Captain Darwish Rasooli who went onto score a fighting 121 off 241 balls (9 fours, 1 six).

Rasooli and Afsar Zazai (82 off 148 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes) put on the best partnership of the innings for Afghanistan ‘A’ with 168 for the fourth wicket. But after Sahan dismissed Zazai, the only form of defiance came from Rasooli.

Rasooli eventually fell to Wijesundara at 251 nicking a catch to wicket-keeper Sadeera Samarawickrama. From there onwards there was not much resistance forthcoming from the rest of the batsmen. From 251-4 Afghanistan ‘A’ lost their last six wickets for the addition of 55 runs to be all out for 306.

Wijesundara with four wickets (4/75) to follow his six wickets in the first innings finished with a match bag of 10 to take the Player of the Match award. Dilshan Madushanka and spinners Wanuja Sahan and Tharindu Rathnayake had an equal share of the remaining six wickets.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ ended their short tour of Abu Dhabi on a successful note. They were unbeaten winning all their matches of the One-day Tri-Nation Series against Ireland Wolves and Afghanistan ‘A’ which they emerged champions and the win in the unofficial test against Afghanistan ‘A’.
