The Old Thomians Rugby Football Union (OTRFU) will celebrate 70 years of rugby heritage with a grand beach rugby carnival under lights at Port City Colombo on 24 May.

The event will kick off at 3 p.m. and promises an evening of fun-filled, community-centred rugby action.

The carnival will feature 16 teams battling it out for pride with LKR 350,000 in prize money on offer. According to OTRFU President Ashean Karthelis, the event is designed to bring together players and fans in a festive atmosphere. “This is about community rugby—not competitive rugby,” he emphasised.

Participation is open to all former players and rugby enthusiasts, including alumni, but excludes current A Division players to maintain the spirit of friendly competition. The carnival offers a rare chance for seasoned players to reconnect with the game and each other.

Over 30 sponsors have already joined hands to support the event, reflecting strong backing from the rugby community and beyond. Organisers expect a large turnout of Old Thomians and supporters.

Veteran former top-class rugby Dilroy Fernando will serve as Tournament Director, ensuring smooth execution and high standards of play. The event marks a significant milestone in the OTRFU’s proud rugby legacy. (SJ)
