The Colombo Golf League (CGL) 2025 concluded in grand fashion at the beautiful and historic Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC), marking another milestone in Sri Lanka’s growing franchise-style golf landscape. The three-day event, played under excellent course conditions despite recent challenges faced by the city, showed exceptional skill, discipline, and team spirit. Adding to its significance, this year’s league made a remarkable humanitarian contribution, with the winners pledging their entire prize purse towards national flood-relief efforts an act widely praised across the golfing community.
Emerging as the overall champions, the Nuwara Eliya Panthers, led with authority by Tharanga Gunasekera, delivered a campaign defined by consistency and composure. Their disciplined approach across all seven rounds enabled them to amass 24 points, the highest total of the league. With three crucial victories and two ties forming the backbone of their season, the Hill Country unit demonstrated both tactical flexibility and dependable teamwork in securing the 2025 title.
The Trinco Sharks finished as worthy runners-up, collecting 18 points after a spirited run marked by resilience and sharp strategic play. Their ability to withstand pressure, adapt to course dynamics, and maintain strong cohesion placed them firmly among the league’s elite. Despite facing formidable opposition, the Sharks’ determination saw them produce some of the event’s most competitive golf.
In the early stages, the Sharks dominated Group A with an impressive 97-point aggregate, while the Panthers topped Group B with a commanding 105 points. These performances ensured both teams advanced confidently into the decisive final stage, setting up a highly anticipated battle for league supremacy.
Beyond the competition itself, the 2025 edition of the CGL stood out for its spirit of unity and purpose. The collective decision to contribute the prize money to flood-relief efforts reflected the league’s commitment to community upliftment during a challenging period for the nation.
With stellar performances, noble contributions, and the scenic charm of RCGC serving as the perfect backdrop, the Colombo Golf League 2025 concluded on a high note celebrating golf at its finest both on and beyond the
