Galle recorded a winning start against Jaffna, while the Kandy and Colombo encounter ended in a draw in the opening week of the Next XV Under-19 franchise rugby league, which kicked off at Longdon Place last weekend in front of a packed ground.

Kandy 7 - Colombo 7

Kandy, though they had so much possession and territory, failed to convert them into points. They dominated the first half and majority of the second, while the Shaakib Zumri-led Colombo outfit played well in patches but ended on equal terms in the end.

Galle 22 - Jaffna 17

In the second game, Galle Lions edged out Jaffna Bulls 22/17 after the short breather saw both teams on equal terms at 12 apiece. Galle Lions lead the points table with four, while Colombo and Jaffna are on two points each, with the last place occupied by Jaffna with a solitary point.
