Navy SC maintain clean sheet with ninth successive win

Pace-setters Navy SC continued their nine-match winning streak in the SLC Major Club Women’s Limited-Over Tournament with a 41-run win over Air Force SC at Katunayake yesterday.

An opening partnership of 90 between Hasini Perera (62 off 102 balls, 7 fours) and Nilakshana Sandamini (33), and one of 64 by skipper Hansima Karunaratne (39) and Dahami Sanethma (22), formed Navy SC’s total of 183-8. Air Force SC were never in the hunt as they were dismissed for 142 in 45 overs, with left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera making inroads into their batting to finish with 4/22 off 10 overs. Malsha Shehani stuck it out for 81 balls, scoring 60 (5 fours, 1 six) before being ninth out at 131.

Chilaw Marians CC kept pace with the table leaders by pulling off a thrilling 8-run win against Panadura SC at Bloomfield Grounds. In a match reduced to 29 overs due to rain, Chilaw Marians CC scored 108-9 and dismissed Panadura SC for 100 in 28.3 overs. Seamers Chethana Vimukthi (3/20) and Pramudi Methsara (3/18) bowled best for Panadura SC. The main damage to the Panadura SC batting was done by off-spinner Dewmi Vihanga. Opening the bowling, she took 5/16 off 6 overs.

A solid opening stand of 127 off 221 balls between Nethmi Senarathna (65 off 130 balls, 4 fours) and Imalka Mendis (57 off 116 balls, 1 four) saw Army SC post a five-wicket win against CCC at the General Balagalle Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka women’s opener and CCC Captain Vishmi Gunaratne (67 off 114 balls, 3 fours, 1 six) and Kaushini Nuthyangana, with a run-a-ball 41 (3 fours), were the principal scorers for CCC in their total of 167-8. Left-arm spinner Sugandika Kumari took 3/37 for Army SC.

Colts secured only their second win, beating SSC by three wickets at Colts Grounds. In a match reduced to 33 overs, SSC scored 117-9, with off-spinner Nethmi Sanjana producing figures of 3/20. Colts overhauled that total in the 32nd over, following an opening stand of 48 by Erandi Warnakulasooriya (30) and Captain Dulanga Dissanayaka (26). – [ST]
