Sharujan Shanmuganathan top scored for Tamil Union with 81, Navy SC’s Ishan Anuradha ran through Moors SC batting taking 6/32, Pulindu Perera hit another fine knock of 88 for Nugegoda SWC
On a rain-hit opening day Navy SC were the only team to grab first innings points dismissing Moors SC for 128 and replying with 146-3 in the SLC Under-23 inter-club two-day tournament match played at Moors SC grounds yesterday.
Former Ambalangoda Dharmasoka skipper Ishan Anuradha crippled the Moors SC batting with figures of 6/32 off 10.2 overs. Only Ravishan de Silva put up resistance against him scoring 60 off 100 balls (6 fours, 1 six). Navy SC’s reply was spearheaded by Ruveen Fonseka who is unbeaten on 76 scored off 149 balls (9 fours, 1 six).
Tamil Union scoring at a fast pace racked up the highest total for the day 281-9 in 58 overs against Galle CC at the Galle Cricket Stadium. Wicket-keeper/bat Sharujan Shanmuganathan led the Galle CC run spree with 81 off 116 balls (8 fours) while Naren Muralidaran, son of Sri Lanka’s cricketing icon Muthiah Muralidaran scored 45. Off-spinner Manitha Rajapaksha took 4/51 for Galle CC.
An unfinished seventh wicket partnership of 63 between Amitha Perera (43*) and Mohomed Murshad (27*) saw Negombo CC end the first day of their match against Colts on 253-6 at the Colts grounds. Hasindu Kaviratne scored 67 off 115 balls (6 fours) at the top of the order. Ryan Dissanayake (4/74) was the pick of the Colts bowlers with his left-arm spin.
Former Sri Lanka Under-19 opener Pulindu Perera continued his fine form for Nugegoda SWC scoring 88 off 136 balls (11 fours, 1 six) and figuring in two noteworthy stands of 60 with Dasis Manchanayake (23) and 88 with Pasindu Pathum (65* off 119 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes). Nugegoda SWC finished the day on 199-5 against Badureliya CC at Kirimandala.
Police SC recovered from losing six wickets for 89 to finish the first day on 181-8 against Bloomfield at Police Park. An unbroken 61 runs stand between Supun Fernando (31*) and Nipun Premaratna (33*) was the feature of their batting against the right-arm seam of 19-year-old Nisala Abeyrathne (3/19).
Ace Capital CC were 46 runs away from gaining first innings points from Army SC at Panagoda. After terminating Army SC for 68 with left-arm seamer Danal Hemananda (5/34) and left-arm spinner Wanuja Sahan (5/19) sharing the spoils, Ace Capital CC ended the day on 22-1.
