Home sensation Nadeesha Gayanthi clinched four gold medals as Sri Lankan shuttlers bagged major honours at the Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championship 2025, concluded at the St. Joseph’s College Indoor Courts in Colombo on Monday.
Sri Lankan athletes secured a staggering tally of 26 gold medals and 18 silver medals, while Team India pocketed a total of 11 gold medals and 17 silver medals, from the 60 finals lined up during the final two days of the four-day competition. Indonesian athletes provided the usual competitive charm while earning four each of gold and silver medals. The United Arab Emirates and Switzerland finished among the top five in the medals tally winning a gold and silver medal each.
Among the other standout athletes for Sri Lanka were Niluka Karunaratne and Manjula Sampath Fernando, who won three gold medals each, Niroshan Wijekoon claimed two gold medals. Out of the total of 60 different category finals, 36 key finals were played on the final day of the exciting four-day international tournament, which brought together over 350 shuttlers from leading badminton-playing nations to Colombo.
The awards ceremony was held soon after the final, where officials from Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) including President Roshan Gunawardena, officials of Ceylon Masters Badminton (CMB), including President Rohan de Silva and distinguished guests including St. Joseph’s College, Colombo Rector Rev. Fr. Ranjith Andradi graced the occasion.
A substantial prize pool of $ 10,000 was on offer for the winners of the prestigious Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championships 2025, in addition to certificates and medals. The tournament, conducted in accordance with Badminton World Federation (BWF) regulations, was organised by Ceylon Masters Badminton in collaboration with Sri Lanka Badminton.
The annual event included competitions for diverse age categories, spanning from Over-35 to Over-75 in Men’s and Women’s Singles as well as Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles. Combined age categories for 100+, 110+, 120+, 130+ and 140+ across Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The flagship international competition hosted annually by Ceylon Masters Badminton, attracted players of the age category of 35 and above from many badminton-playing countries.
