The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sri Lanka on Sunday outlined key governance reforms, institutional developments and preparations for upcoming international sporting events during a press conference held in Colombo recently.
The update highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency and improve the management of sports administration in the country. The Annual General Meeting and election of new office bearers for next 4 years will take place on 25 April 2026.
A comprehensive forensic audit covering the period from 2015 to 2024 is currently being conducted. Due to the ongoing audit, the NOC requested additional time to hold its Quadrennial Elective General Assembly. An independent Election Commission headed by retired Supreme Court Judge K.T. Chithrasiri will supervise the process along with President’s Counsel, Harsha Amarasekera and Attorney at Law, Piyasena Ranasinghe.
The NOC has also initiated a governance benchmarking framework for national federations to improve accountability, transparency and risk management. The initiative aims to strengthen governance standards across Sri Lanka’s national sports system.
Another major initiative is the “Fit for Life Program” planned for 2026–2032. Developed with several ministries and international partners, the program aims to promote physical activity, monitor fitness levels and enhance grassroots sports development across the country.
Eight Sri Lankan athletes have been awarded Olympic Solidarity Scholarships in preparation for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The scholarships will support training, international competition exposure and medical assistance during the Olympic cycle.
Sri Lanka is also preparing for several major international events including the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya and the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026. NOC Sri Lanka reaffirmed its commitment to good governance while supporting athletes to achieve greater success on the international stage.
