The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) from the Hill Country of Sri Lanka is preparing to host two of its most prestigious events—the Captains Cup and the Presidents Prize—on 6 and 7 September.
Over 60 golfers have already confirmed their participation, promising two days of top-quality golf at one of Asia’s oldest and most scenic courses.
The action begins on 6 September with the Captains Cup, a tournament steeped in tradition since its inception in 1897. This year, all eyes will be on hometown favourite, Imran Nazeer, who will be looking to defend his title and once again delight the local supporters with his consistency and skill.
The following day, on 7 September, the spotlight will shift to the President’s Prize. First contested in 1984, this event has grown in stature over the decades. Former Trinitian Surain Premathilake will be defending his crown, aiming to secure back-to-back victories at the lush NEGC fairways.
Adding further intrigue, both tournaments will count towards the A.R. Aitken Trophy, awarded to the golfer with the best aggregate score across the two events. Last year, this honour went to Kaiyan Johnpillai, who will once again be among the strong contenders.
The Captains Cup and Presidents Prize remain more than just competitions; they are a celebration of the NEGC’s proud golfing heritage, bringing together seasoned veterans and emerging talents.
