Mild response from ICC to SLC Transformation Committee

Although no member of the Government-appointed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Transformation Committee was invited for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) quarterly meeting in Ahmedabad over the weekend, unlike in the past, the ICC has not slapped sanctions on Sri Lanka.

Soon after the Transformation Committee under former Minister Eran Wickramaratne was appointed, the ICC sent Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja on what was effectively a fact-finding mission to Colombo last month. However, at the latest meeting, no sanctions attributed to Government interference followed.

From the minutes arising out of the Board meeting, the ICC media release stated: “In Sri Lanka, ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja and Devajit Saikia (Board of Control for Cricket in India) have visited and met with relevant stakeholders to assess ongoing developments.”

And it ends there.

The Transformation Committee has repeatedly expressed that its goal remains to rewrite an outdated SLC constitution, in order to better align the organisation with the requirements of Sri Lanka’s public.
