20 teams, including two new comers will be seen in action at the 53rd Mercantile Rugby Football Sevens 2025 together with 8th Women’s Tag Rugby “Sevens” conducted by the Mercantile Rugby Football Association (MRFA) under its new President, Mindika Jayasinghe from Sampath Bank, on 12 and 13 September, at CR&FC Grounds, Longdon Place, Colombo 7.
On Friday, the tournament will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will be continued on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The principal sponsor Mastercard is sponsoring the tournament for the 3rd successive year; supported by LOLC Finance PLC, as the financial service provider; Prima Kottumee as the Food Partner; Turbo Energy Drink as the Beverage partner; Iodex as the pain relive partner; The Papare as the broadcasting partner and Yes FM as the radio partner.
The Official draw and the Media Conference was held on 8 September at the CR&FC Pavilion at 6.30 p.m.
The 20 participating teams were pooled into five groups as follows:
“Cup” Championship: six teams in two groups
“Bowl” Championship: four teams in a single group
“Shield” Championship: 10 teams in two groups
Two foreign Referees flown in from UK will be officiating alongside with the Sri Lankan Referees.
The sponsorships were presented to the MRFA President Mindika Jayasinghe and Immediate Past President Dinushka Jayatissa by the Chief Guests, Mastercard Country Manager – Sri Lanka and Maldives Sandun Hapugoda, Mastercard and LOLC Finance PLC AGM Prasad Perera, Ceylon Agro Industries Prima Group Sri Lanka International Marketing and Business Development Head Achala Ramanayake, Turbo Energy Drink Director Tharaka Gunawardena and Haleon Sri Lanka and Maldives Commercial Head Manjula Weerakoon.
