Sri Lanka’s Cricket Selectors Chairman and former ODI Captain Upul Tharanga was involved in a match fixing allegation incident at Pallekele where the seven-team Legends Cricket League is taking place.

It is alleged that two officials of two of the participating teams had invited Tharanga and former New Zealand cricketer Neil Broom to fix matches.

The two cricketers have reported the approaches made to them to their relevant authorities. Tharanga reported it to the Special Investigations Unit for Preventing Sports Offences (SIU) and Broom to New Zealand Cricket who had then informed the ICC.

Subsequently, the SIU has imposed a travel ban on the two officials pending further investigations.

The tournament features retired international cricketers and includes several past Sri Lankan players.

Tharanga represents Kandy Samp Army and Broom plays for Punjab Royals.
